Dr. James Wohlschlegel and his colleagues research the use of proteomic mass spectrometry to study signal transduction pathways regulated by the ubiquitin system. They are particularly interested in understanding the role of protein degradation in regulating various aspects of iron metabolism including intracellular iron homeostasis, autophagy, iron-sulfur cluster assembly and cell cycle control. The Wohlschlegel laboratory is also heavily involved in the development of new proteomic applications that they employ collaboratively with other groups at UCLA.
