Echocardiographic Assessment [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core offers non-invasive ultrasound assessment of mice and rats. We specialize in echocardiography, but the machine is capable of imaging any organ in the animal. |
EKG Monitoring [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core can non-invasivly monitor EKGs acutly in awake or lightly anethetized mice or rats for a few hours at a time. Alternatively, telemetry devices can be implanted for chronic monitoring for up to 18 months. |
Telemetric Monitoring [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core offers a full range of telemetric monitoring for mice or rats. These include chronic monitoring of blood pressure, the EKG, EEG, body temperature and cage activity. Some can be performed under GLP conditions for safety toxicology studies. The core has 2 complete DSI telemetry systems capable of continuously monitoring up to 32 mice or rats at once. |
Hemodynamic Assessment [More information] |

Hemodynamic Assessment [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse care can assess hemodynamics and blood pressures in mice or rats by a variety of methods including catheterization and telemetric approaches. Acute (non-survival) arterial, venous and LV pressures are available via catheterizations. Blood pressure regulation can be tested via injection of selected agonists and antagonists. Cardiac output can be obtained via Doppler flow measures. Chronic arterial pressures are available via telemetry. GLP level assessments available. |
Surgical Procedures [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core can perform a variety of surgical procedures in mice or rats. These include trans-aortic contstriction (TAC), coronary artery ligation, catheterizations, device, osmotic pump or telemetric device implantations. Custom surgery available upon request. |
Reperfusion Injury and Stem Cell injections [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core has expertise in coronary artery ligation studies for permanent and temporary occlusions. Intra-cardiac injections of stem cells can be performed during these procedures in either rats or mice. |
Exercise Testing [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core has a Rotarod treadmill that can accommodate up to 5 mice at once for exercise testing. |
Metabolic Testing [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core can obtain metabolic rate values from mice using indirect calorimetry. |
Glucose or Insulin Tolerance Testing [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse core has the capability to test mice or rats for their tolerance to glucose and insulin. Coming soon, we will have implantable telemetry to provide continuous monitoring for up to one month. |
Pulse Oxcimetry [More information] |
CHS | Kenneth Roos kroos@mednet.ucla.edu 310-825-5408 |
The mouse physiology core can monitor the oxygen saturation in mice or rats in awake or lightly anesthetized conditions. |
